After 2016 featured the disappointing No-Man’s-Sky, 2017 hardly needs to show up to exceed any expectations. However, with much of the gaming community, there are always the titles to get everyone excited. The upcoming releases of 2017 are justifiable, but only time will tell whether these games live up to their hype. Check out a few of our potential favorites.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Welcome to The Wild Wild West! The Red Dead series is basically Grand Theft Auto on horses. Grand Theft Auto has won the hearts of many gamers for years, so of course this is an expected favorite. This sequel allows the players to experience the background of the enigmatic John Marston, giving a glimpse of what led him down such a destructive past. We’ll learn more about this game as information becomes available.
The original Outlast was a breath of fresh air to the stereotypical horror genre. While simple, yet captivating, the trailer depicts a voice over footage of an inverted cross on fire, enough to disturb even the bravest gamer.
The Spiderman video game was a hit back on the original Xbox and PlayStation 2. An open-world sandbox with the wise-cracking webslinger was ahead of its time, but now that technology has caught up, Spiderman will finally have justice. Here’s to hoping it retains the aspects that made the original such a great experience.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
What needs to be said about the Resident Evil series? This series has revolutionized the third person shooter/horror genre, so Resident Evil 7 is almost guaranteed not to fail. However, with such high expectations comes a few inevitable let-downs, but hopefully this game will not be money wasted.
Mass Effect: Andromeda
The Mass Effect series is often regarded as a work of art. This fully immersive universe has the player making choices that elicit sincere emotional responses, alluding to the foundation that separates Mass Effect from the other action -RPG’s.
It’s Mortal Kombat with superheroes. That idea made the original game such an amazing experience. Have no experience with linear fighting games? Just button-mash your way to victory with Superman. This game is a great gateway for even the most inexperienced gamers, if their love for comic book superheroes is palpable.
The Crackdown series has always been great, albeit under the radar and underappreciated. The concept of fighting against gangs in a futuristic landscape is nothing new, but Crackdown takes pride in its simplicity, a virtue all too rare nowadays. A mindless but addictive shooter, Crackdown 3 will have you adventuring all the nooks and crannies of the fictional city, enjoying every second.
With all these new and exciting games set to be released, comes some pretty high expectations. So, let the lesson be known: never, ever buy a game pre-release.
