Power Plant Fitness will be making a bit of history this fall as it is becoming the world’s first ever weed-friendly gym.
Based in San Francisco, the gym will work on incorporating cannabis into its members’ workouts. Whether the member should vape, take an edible or smoke as a pre-workout fuel or post-workout recovery tool, the founders and trainers will discover the best method for each of its gym goers.
This gym is a one-of-a-kind and the purpose is an attempt to put to rest the old stereotype that weed smokers are just lazy, couch potatoes. The gym’s co-founder, Jim McAlpine, started the 420 Games, an annual sports event for athletic people who smoke the ganja.
“I think sports will become one of the bigger pieces of the marijuana industry,” McAlpine told SFGate.com. He also claims, “Marijuana, if you use it in a responsible way, accentuates the parts of sports that you love and helps you to do them better.”
Medical marijuana experts and weed activists are advocates of the gym’s methods and ideals. Marijuana has been shown to decrease pain and improve moods which could help your work outs.
However, working out high has its downsides as well. A recent study found that men who were high had slower reaction times. What a stunning result of a research study! *Rolls eyes*
While it can help you get motivated and focused when hitting the gym, only time and more research will tell whether or not it actually improves performance. This weed-encouraging gym could go a long way in finding that out.
