With all the hustle and bustle in everyday life, how the hell do you find time to balance everything? Of course, you need to make your career a priority considering that’s how you afford to live, but you still need to make time for friends, family, your significant other, and yourself especially. At times you may feel like you’re juggling everything pretty well, but let’s face it, juggling is hard. The best way to keep yourself sane is to make sure you find time for everything important in your life without stretching yourself too thin. We have some ideas to help so you don’t lose your mind in the process.
Use Your Calendar
We know your phone has a calendar on it, so use it. Seriously, it will save you so much time and stress. If you have never been the calendar kind of guy then now is a good time to start. When you start to feel overwhelmed, you can just review your agenda and relax when you see that you have plenty of time for it all. This also keeps you from committing to things you don’t have time for. If it won’t fit in your calendar, don’t do it. Simple as that!
Because you’re an adult, you don’t need to spend every weekend with your bros. In fact, it’s really hard to get anything worthwhile done if you’re always out and about. However, you don’t want to drift apart from good friends either. The best way to make sure you can spend quality time with your buddies is to promise at least once a month you’ll get together, whether it’s drinks or a night out. This way you won’t feel bad declining frequent invites, but you also won’t feel obligated to attend everything you’re invited to. If you live in the same state as your relatives, then this goes for them too.
Have Dinner Every Night
Everyone must eat! So make it a point to always have dinner with your significant other. Don’t skip dinner when you’re stressed and don’t pick up food on the way home because she’s already eaten. Make a promise to each other that no matter what, you will always spend your evening meal together. This lets you both get to catch up and share the details of your day. If you stop your mind from racing long enough to sit and listen to your wife or girlfriend over dinner, then she won’t feel neglected while you’re working those long hours.
Take An Hour To Yourself
Balancing so much in life means you typically place yourself on the back burner, which eventually leads to being completely burnt out. Take an hour or two a week to yourself where you can do whatever makes you happy. Try reading a book, learning guitar, or even just zoning out in front of the TV with no obligations. This is your time so say no to everything else during that specific block of time you set aside for yourself. Do it every week with no excuses. You deserve it!
Hopefully, these tips help lighten your load a bit (or at least help you manage it a little easier). If you live by the rule that everything has an appropriate place and time, then prioritizing all the important things will be much more clear. Work smarter not harder!
