The holidays are right around the corner, so that means Thanksgiving is approaching quickly. If you’re like millions of other guys, then you’ll be spending your turkey day surrounded by friends and family. But if you’re planning on bringing a girlfriend to introduce to your family this year, there are a few pros and cons you need to keep in mind. Mainly cons.

When you bring your date to family gatherings, this lets your family know that you’re not insane. Sometimes you’ll be visited by family members that you haven’t seen in months or years, so now they can all stop worrying that you’ll be alone forever. The only thing to keep in mind is to make sure the girl you’re bringing to dinner is someone you’re proud of. It would be a huge mistake bringing the wrong girl to Thanksgiving, like a one night stand or any “relationship” that’s unstable.

Only bring girls that you believe will weather the storm of family politics because Thanksgiving is a stressful holiday all on its own. Kids are running around while adults are trying to drink and cook without burning anything. That’s why Thanksgiving dinners always result in yelling contests. Why would you want to bring in a stranger into the mix? Next thing you know, your date has to suffer awkwardly between your grandparents while they argue. That’s not exactly the ideal situation you want to bring your date into.

Thanksgiving is time to spend with your family, drink beer, and watch football. Anything else is simply getting in the way of this holiday. Using this time to introduce your girlfriend to your family is fine, but can’t it wait until Sunday brunch over mimosas? That sounds much less stressful.
