The Belmond Andean Explorer offers passengers the chance to travel across one of the highest locomotive routes on Earth, straight through the Peruvian Andes. This ride is jaw-droopingly gorgeous and attracts travelers from across the globe.
The train ride includes some of the most spectacular views in the world and includes a luxury sleeper train for a restful and comfortable trip. Starting in Cusco, passing through Lake Titicaca, and ending in Arequipa. Tickets aren’t available until May 2017 for this two night journey, but you’ll have several options to consider.
The Peruvian Highlands trip is a three day and two-night adventure that takes passengers from Cuzco—which was the capital of the ancient Inca Empire—to the peaks of the Andes. You’ll get to visit remote villages like Puno, Lake Titicaca’s floating islands, and Arequipa.
On this ride you’ll also get to see the breath-taking Colca Canyon, one of the world’s deepest canyons, from above. You’re other option is the Spirit of the Andes, an overnight stint that travels from Lake Titicaca to Cusco, right across the Altiplano, one of the largest and highest plateaus in the world. Regardless of which option you choose, this train experience is sure to be the experience of a lifetime.
Now for the train itself: the interior is just as much of a reason to invest in this trip as the views outside your window. The newly constructed train cars are relaxing and modern with plush seats and elegant interior design by Inge Moore, director of HBA London. Neutral colors and Alpaca wool pull together Andean aesthetics for a well-rounded visual experience.
The Belmond Andean Explorer can hold up to 68 people with beautiful en-suite cabin options including two double cabins, 12 bunk-bed cabins, and 20 twin-size cabins. An open-air deck on the Observation Car allows you to experience views of the Andeans just a little bit closer. For drinks and socializing with other passengers, the Lounge Car offers drinks and ample seating.
Make your way to one of the train’s two Dining Cars when you get hungry. Local ingredients and top chefs from Cusco make each meal its own experience.
Although tickets are not yet available, May will be here before we know it, so you better start planning! This is definitely an adventure you don’t want to miss.
