Sandwiches. Who doesn’t love them? Not only are they literally EVERYWHERE but it’s hard to think of a more simple, and universally loved food item.
Tyler Kord, owner of the No. 7 restaurant and No. 7 Sub shop in New York, is now also a published author! Kord has created a very unique cookbook that is bound to either have you laughing hysterically or craving a big fat sandwich, or both. The new cookbook is called, “A Super Upsetting Cookbook About Sandwiches,” and with a title like that, you know it’s going to be good.
Kord takes us on a journey complete with philosophical insights, self-loathing, drunken stories, and of course sandwich recipes. You’ll laugh, you’ll feel bad for laughing, and then want a sandwich. The book will have you cramping from laughter, but it’s still a cookbook after all.
His sandwich recipes are top notch and include a variety of meats, vegetables, and a few vegetarian sandwiches in the mix as well. He makes these sandwiches in his shops, so you know they have to be good. There’s also great photos of the recipes, so you can judge your creation against those of the sandwich master himself.
The artwork done throughout the book is by William Wegman, and compliments the book perfectly! If you don’t know who he is, he’s best known for dog photos, specifically his dogs in costumes. Who doesn’t love a dog in a costume?
There’s a cool feature of the book called “Sandwich Construction: Theory & a Chart.” It gives helpful guidelines to help construct an amazing experimental sandwich on your own. It’s fun to get creative in all aspects of life from sex to sandwiches, am I right?
The book reads like a long-form blog post, but it’s engaging and interesting. It’s not The Joy of Cooking everybody’s mom had in the kitchen back in the day. This book is great for the sandwich lover, the humor lover, or the foodie in your life. Plus, there’s some extras recipes in the book besides sandwiches like how to make Canadian bacon at home, seriously!
How can you pass up this book? Pour yourself a drink and get reading!
